:::Lucent Listening:::
For once, I feel like I'm one step ahead of the music game. This summer, while "discovering" new tracks on eMusic, I came across this amazing song by Macha, called "Smash & Grab." While I wasn't totally blown away by all the other offerings on their new record "Forget Tomorrow," I was instantly, unequivocally attracted to that track--waves of beats washing over in various states of sound, the ephemeral competing with the eternal, pulling you back-and-forth from the current to the always.
OK, that's probably the worst description ever, but this song is amazing and it's one of those compositions that accurately reflects every shade of mood you could have, from the euphoric to the depressive. You can download it from eMusic here.
I admit, I got a little lost there. But my point was, for once I feel slightly ahead-of-the-curve, because Pitchfork reviewed the track today, giving it four stars and saying:
"And then the song drops out. And then it comes back in. And then all of a sudden it's a monster fucking jam, a dense, psychedelic, swirling, polyrhythmic boa constrictor of a song. It's autumn music. It's music custom-built for staring out dirty train windows in Massachusetts in fall, blowing warm air into your hands. "
Not quite indie rock, not quite electronic, but both at the same time, this song isn't just a must-hear, it's a must-have.
